Spring is Popping Out All Over

We enjoyed an absolutely beautiful weekend.  Very spring-like.  Temperatures are expected to be in the 70's this week and back into the mid-60's this upcoming weekend.  Spring showers are possible each day this week.  This is very encouraging news.  The gardens love these nice warm days with gentle spring showers.

We ran to Lowe's on Saturday and picked up some beautiful boston fern for the planters on the deck rail.  They like it here because it is relatively shady.  I was say this location has dappled shade from the bamboo which you can see in the background in this picture.

They also had some magnificent flats of snapdragon which I could not resist.

I got enough to fill two planters on the deck.  Once these take hold in the planters I expect they will flourish.

The bulb table continues to amaze.  It looks like we may have a couple of pots which are going to be late bloomers or possibly not offer anything this season.  If we get nothing, we will take a look at what happened and set about fixing it so we don't run into the same problem again next year.

Remember last week I posted that we spied some tulip bulbs making their way up through the fern in this pot but we did not remember what color they were.  We found out this weekend.  They are a vibrant red with the most exquisite yellow centers.

We got the pressure-treated lumber on Saturday for the foundation for the greenhouse.  Excavation began on Saturday afternoon.  But we ran into a problem, that being the ground was completely saturated with water from the rains we got last week.  Even though the area we have chosen is on a high spot, it was still too wet to work in.  I would be concerned about setting the foundation in the present condition of the ground.  So we decided to wait until we had a more solid plot to work in before continuing with that project.
