Ivy and Ornamental Grass Update

On January 9, 2013 I posted that I removed a section of ivy on one of the trees in the front yard at Crest Avenue.  Finally, all these months later, we have a tree with dead ivy.

We will leave the removal to Mother Nature.  Over the summer months the ivy will release its grip on the tree trunk and fall to the ground.  The tree in the background, which is on a neighboring property, is still verdant with ivy.  It is very pretty, but not good for the tree.  The ivy saps nutrients and adds considerable weight to the trunk making the tree prone to toppling in a heavy storm.  Let's hope we don't have that to deal with anytime soon.

Looks like I am going to need to do some additional ivy trimming.  This patch has made its way over the sidewalk leading to the outside central air conditioning unit.

We got the large zebra grass trimmed and ready for the season.  If you look very closely you can see a few green shoots appearing here and there.  Last year I transplanted this grass from another section of the yard and the trauma of that did not make it very happy.  It was less than magnificent last season.  I am hoping that it is now happy in its new home and will be quite showy this year.

And finally, the clippings from the zebra grass to be bagged up and set out for yard waste pickup on Monday.
