A Birthday Celebration

We had a birthday celebration on Saturday evening.  Steven's birthday is the 22nd of the this month.  We decided to celebrate this past weekend since his brother and fiancee will not be available this coming weekend.  It was a splendid evening.

For the first course(s), I presented a tray of deviled eggs.

Shrimp with cocktail sauce.  I made the cocktail sauce and it was divine.  No prepared cocktail sauce can touch this.  Ingredients include, chili sauce, fresh lemon juice, salt, Worchestershire sauce and horseradish. Simply to die for.  This was a medium size glass bowl filled with ice.  Then a smaller glass bowl set in the center atop the ice with the cocktail sauce and the shrimp arranged around the outside of the larger bowl.  A twist of lemon and a sprig of parsley and you've got an elegant and scrumptious appetizer.

Since Steven is still having some trouble eating certain foods and prefers sweet over salty, I made a coleslaw with pineapple and marshmallows.  This was really good and a nice change from the standard coleslaw recipe.  I would make this again.

And finally, sesame breadsticks in a glass.  These are always delicious to have with cocktails.  So simple and a nice look on the table or bar.  I will add the recipes for the coleslaw and cocktail sauce on the Food and Recipes page.
