Say Hello to My Little Friend

It's time to get started on the backsplash in the kitchen.  I picked up this handy little tile saw at Lowe's.  It's the perfect size for this job.  And it was only $79.  Such a deal.  I got it out of the box yesterday and assembled.

The first thing to be done was to remove the protective guard underneath and install the cutting blade.  There were two screws holding this guard in place.  Access to this area was very easy.

Then I placed the blade, which comes with the unit, over the motor shaft and secured it tightly.

You see here the two wrenches (included in the box), which are used for this installation.  The one on the bottom fits over the nut which secures the blade in place and the top wrench holds the motor shaft stationary while you tighen down the blade.

Once that is done, you upright the unit and install the rip fence (the long, sliding contraption which gives you a flat surface to butt the tile against for even cutting) and the protective blade cover.  That's it.

There is an additional element included which allows you to cut your tiles on an angle.  Also, the stainless steel bed lifts upward for making bevel cuts.  Always make sure to add water to the tray to keep the blade cool while cutting.  Never run the saw without water in the tray.  And there you have it.  I was really impressed with the weight of this unit and all the things it offers for $79.

Now, let's cut some tile!!!
