This past Sunday was my birthday. I had a wonderful time with Steven and our friend Lea on Saturday evening. Steven made surf and turf, which consisted of a combination of scrumptious filet mignon and scallops, both done to perfection. We also had roasted asparagus and Lea brought a faro salad. For dessert, and in place of the traditional cake, we had mousse cups with fanciful decorations on top. We started and finished the evening with a variety of red wines to include a Layer Cake cabernet sauvignon and later a Menage a Trois merlot. Wonderful, wonderful evening.
At the end of the evening, I was presented with gifts. Lea potted a very healthy and vibrant spider plant from her collection and gave that to me since I had recently told her in conversation that I wanted a spider plant. Steven gave me a new "Nest" thermostat.
This is the most amazing and technologically advanced piece of equipment I think I've ever seen. I will not get into all of the many ways you can control your heating and cooling preferences through this device. Suffice it to say, this thing does just about everything except actually pay the electric or gas bill. I'm sure that at some point in the future it will probably be able to do that as well.
The unit comes with this all inclusive and very easy to use installation kit.
If you have a Wi-Fi connection, it will ask for your username and password. After you supply that information and it makes a connection, you will be able to control the unit from your SmartPhone. The app is easy to download and very easy to use. The most intriguing thing about this thermostat is that it senses when you are away. You can set your away temperature and once the unit detects that the house is empty, it will automatically adjust the temperature to your away preference. When you return home, it senses your arrival and returns the temperature to your preset number. This is just one thing it can do. There are a multitude of things it can do.
If you are interested, you can find out more information at www.nest.com. The unit is extremely easy to program unlike the previous versions of what were touted as "Energy Star" programmable thermostats. There is simply no comparison. If you have been thinking of upgrading to a programmable thermostat, I would definitely suggest you give Nest a look.
